I am writing to express my strong support for the proposed Columbia Heights Neighborhood Management Authority (NMA), as outlined in Bill 26-0090, and to urge you to help advance this important legislation.
As a [resident / business owner / community stakeholder] in Columbia Heights, I care deeply about the future of our neighborhood. [ADD 2–3 SENTENCES ABOUT YOUR CONNECTION TO COLUMBIA HEIGHTS, THE CHALLENGES YOU'VE EXPERIENCED, AND WHAT IMPROVEMENTS YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE.]
Columbia Heights is one of DC's most vibrant and diverse neighborhoods, but years of underinvestment have left us with deteriorating public spaces, persistent sanitation issues, vacant storefronts, and insufficient support for local businesses. We need a permanent, well-resourced entity dedicated to addressing these challenges.
After repeated unsuccessful efforts to establish a Business Improvement District (BID), Columbia Heights needs a different approach. The proposed NMA offers a promising solution with dedicated resources, coordinated neighborhood management, and meaningful representation for residents and small businesses. It would help create cleaner, safer, and more welcoming public spaces while supporting economic development and revitalizing our commercial corridors.
I urge you to support Bill 26-0090 and work with your Council colleagues to advance the legislation before the end of this Council period. Columbia Heights has waited far too long for sustained investment and neighborhood management. We cannot afford another year of inaction or another missed opportunity. The time to move this legislation forward is now.
Thank you.
